Birita Adela is a classically trained
soprano from the Faroe Islands.
She studied Bel Canto in Nürnberg, Germany, and has worked professionally in both Germany and the Faroe Islands. In 2017 she co-founded the Faroese opera company "Opera.fo", where she is also artistic director.
Although music plays an integral role in Faroese culture and society with its centuries-long tradition of storytelling, classical singing and opera was only recently introduced there.
Birita's music career started in the areas of jazz and musical, but in 2013 she was fortunate to meet American bariton Douglas Yates during a master class on the Faroe Islands. And that was the beginning of her operatic journey.
She was invited to study classical singing technique at Douglas Yates' studio, Vocal Arts, in Nürnberg, Germany, and later studied in Florence, Italy. She has worked professionally in Germany and on the Faroe Islands, and in 2017 she co-founded the Faroese opera company OPERA.FO, which aims to raise the general interest in opera and to expand the performing arts in the Faroe Islands by including the art form of opera. In cooperation with the Faroese National Theater Opera.fo has staged several very successful performances, including "Leporello's Diary" - a modern transcription of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” by Fabian Dobler (DE), where Birita sang the role of Donna Anna, and most recently Mozart's "Magic Flute", where she portrayed the Queen of the Night.
Furthermore Birita has worked professionally as an actress in several productions in the Faroese National Theater, giving her solid experience in dramatical stage work. Her knowledge and training in acting technique, character- and textwork has proven to be a great benefit for her professional performance skills in opera productions.
